In space and astronautical engineering, substrate refers to the underlying material or surface on which a device or component is mounted or deposited. The substrate can be a solid material, such as silicon or glass, or a flexible material, such as a polymer film. The choice of substrate is critical to the performance and reliability of the device, as it affects the thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of the system.
