Stratosphere
The stratosphere is the layer of the Earth's atmosphere that lies between the troposphere and the mesosphere. It is characterized by a steady increase in temperature with altitude, due to the presence of the ozone layer that absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun. The stratosphere is an important region for space and astronautical engineering because it is where most of the Earth's weather balloons, high-altitude aircraft, and some satellites operate. The stratosphere is also the location of the stratopause, which is the boundary between the stratosphere and the mesosphere.
