Steam Power Plants

Steam power plants are thermal power plants that generate electricity by using steam as the working fluid. The heat required to produce steam is generated by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, or natural gas, or by using nuclear reactions. The steam produced by the heat is then used to drive a steam turbine, which in turn drives an electrical generator. The efficiency of a steam power plant depends on the temperature and pressure of the steam produced, and the type of fuel used. Modern steam power plants use supercritical steam conditions to achieve higher efficiencies. However, steam power plants are also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
