Zeolites

Zeolites are a group of porous minerals with a unique crystalline structure that can be used as catalysts, adsorbents, and ion exchangers in various applications in space and astronautical engineering. Due to their high surface area, uniform pore size, and ion-exchange capacity, zeolites are used in the purification of water and air, as well as in the production of fuels and chemicals. In space, zeolites can be used to remove carbon dioxide and other impurities from the air in spacecraft, as well as to purify water for drinking and other uses. Zeolites can also be used in the production of oxygen and hydrogen from water through electrolysis, which is a critical process for sustaining human life in space. Additionally, zeolites can be used as catalysts in the production of rocket fuels and in the development of advanced propulsion systems.
