Catalysts

In space and astronautical engineering, catalysts are substances that increase the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed in the process. Catalysts are used in various space applications such as propulsion systems, life support systems, and energy generation systems. In propulsion systems, catalysts are used to increase the efficiency of the reaction between propellants, resulting in higher thrust and specific impulse. In life support systems, catalysts are used to remove harmful contaminants from the air and water, making them safe for human consumption. In energy generation systems, catalysts are used to increase the efficiency of fuel cells and other energy conversion devices.
