Stages

In space and astronautical engineering, stages refer to the separate sections of a rocket or spacecraft that are designed to perform a specific function during launch or flight. Each stage typically contains its own engines, fuel tanks, and other necessary systems. Once a stage has completed its function, it is jettisoned from the rocket or spacecraft to reduce weight and improve efficiency. Multi-stage rockets are commonly used in spaceflight to achieve the high velocities necessary to reach orbit or escape Earth's gravity. The number and configuration of stages used in a rocket or spacecraft depend on the mission requirements and the desired trajectory.
