Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (SNR)


Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (SNR) is a measure of the strength of a signal relative to the background noise in a communication system. In space and astronautical engineering, SNR is an important parameter in the design and operation of communication systems for spacecraft and satellites. A high SNR is desirable as it indicates a strong signal and a low level of noise, which results in a reliable and efficient communication link. SNR can be improved by increasing the power of the transmitted signal, reducing the noise in the system, or using more efficient modulation and coding schemes. However, increasing the power of the transmitted signal may not always be feasible due to power constraints and regulatory limitations. Therefore, optimizing the SNR is a critical aspect of communication system design in space and astronautical engineering.
