Run-length Encoding

Run-length encoding (RLE) is a lossless data compression technique that reduces the size of data by replacing repeated occurrences of the same data value with a count and a single value. In space and astronautical engineering, RLE can be used to compress data transmitted from spacecraft to Earth, reducing the amount of time and energy required for transmission. RLE can also be used to compress images and video data captured by spacecraft cameras, allowing for more efficient storage and transmission of this data.
