Refrigerants

Refrigerants are substances used in refrigeration cycles to transfer heat from one place to another. In space and astronautical engineering, refrigerants are used in thermal control systems to regulate the temperature of spacecraft components and payloads. These refrigerants are typically fluids that have low boiling points and high heat transfer coefficients. They are circulated through the spacecraft's thermal control system, absorbing heat from hot components and releasing it to cold components or to space. Refrigerants are also used in the design of cryogenic systems, which are used to store and transport cryogenic fluids such as liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. In these systems, refrigerants are used to cool the cryogenic fluid to its boiling point, where it can be stored or transported as a gas.
