Radiation Absorption
Radiation absorption refers to the process by which energy from electromagnetic waves is absorbed by matter. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, radiation absorption is an important consideration for spacecraft and their occupants. The harsh radiation environment of space can cause damage to both electronic systems and human health. Therefore, spacecraft must be designed to minimize radiation exposure. This can be achieved through the use of shielding materials, such as lead or polyethylene, which absorb or deflect radiation. Additionally, spacecraft can be designed to have a radiation-tolerant architecture, which includes redundancy and error correction mechanisms to mitigate the effects of radiation-induced errors. Radiation absorption is also an important consideration for space suits, which must protect astronauts from harmful radiation while they perform extravehicular activities.
