Protective Barrier
A protective barrier is a physical or energy shield designed to protect a spacecraft or its crew from harmful external factors such as radiation, micrometeoroids, and debris. Protective barriers can be passive or active. Passive barriers are made of materials that can absorb or deflect incoming particles, while active barriers use energy fields to repel or neutralize threats. Examples of passive barriers include multi-layered insulation, Whipple shields, and meteoroid shields. Active barriers include magnetic shields, plasma shields, and electrostatic shields. Protective barriers are essential for ensuring the safety and longevity of spacecraft and their occupants during long-duration missions in space.
