Orbiter


In space and astronautical engineering, an orbiter is a spacecraft designed to orbit a celestial body. It is typically used for scientific research or for reconnaissance purposes. The orbiter is equipped with various instruments and sensors to collect data and images of the celestial body it is orbiting. It is also designed to withstand the harsh conditions of space, including extreme temperatures and radiation. The orbiter is usually launched into space using a rocket and is placed into orbit around the celestial body using its own propulsion system. Once in orbit, the orbiter can be controlled remotely from Earth or by an onboard computer. Some examples of orbiters include the Space Shuttle Orbiter, which was used by NASA to conduct research and deploy satellites, and the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which is currently orbiting the Moon and collecting data about its surface.
