Molten Salt

Molten salt refers to a mixture of salts that are in a liquid state at high temperatures. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, molten salt is used as a coolant in nuclear reactors for space power and propulsion systems. The high boiling point and low vapor pressure of molten salt make it an ideal coolant for high-temperature applications. Molten salt can also be used as a thermal energy storage medium, which is important for space missions that require energy storage for long periods of time. Additionally, molten salt can be used as a propellant in certain types of rocket engines, such as the Flibe Energy Rocket, which uses a mixture of lithium and fluorine salts as a propellant.
