Longitude

Longitude is the angular distance of a point on the surface of a celestial body measured east or west from a prime meridian, usually the meridian of the observer's position or the Greenwich meridian. In space and astronautical engineering, longitude is an important parameter for determining the position of a spacecraft or satellite in orbit around a celestial body. Accurate determination of longitude is essential for navigation and communication purposes. This is achieved through the use of onboard sensors and ground-based tracking stations that measure the spacecraft's position relative to known landmarks or reference points. The calculation of longitude also takes into account the effects of gravitational forces and other perturbations that can affect the spacecraft's orbit.
