Hydraulic Actuators

Hydraulic actuators are devices that convert hydraulic energy into mechanical energy to perform a specific task. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, hydraulic actuators are commonly used in spacecraft and launch vehicles for various purposes such as controlling the movement of rocket engines, deploying solar panels, and operating landing gears. Hydraulic actuators consist of a cylinder, piston, and hydraulic fluid. When the fluid is pressurized, it pushes the piston, which in turn generates mechanical force. The force generated by the hydraulic actuator is proportional to the pressure of the hydraulic fluid and the surface area of the piston. Hydraulic actuators are preferred over other types of actuators in space applications due to their high power density, reliability, and ability to operate in extreme environments.
