Gyroscopes

Gyroscopes are devices used for measuring or maintaining orientation and angular velocity. They work on the principle of conservation of angular momentum, where a spinning rotor maintains its axis of rotation in a fixed direction in space, regardless of any movement of the base it is mounted on. In space and astronautical engineering, gyroscopes are used for attitude control of spacecraft, satellites, and telescopes. They are also used in inertial navigation systems for determining the position and orientation of a spacecraft. Gyroscopes are critical components for stabilizing and pointing instruments and antennas, and for maintaining the orientation of spacecraft during maneuvers and operations.
