Gravitational Fields

Gravitational fields are the regions of space around a massive object where the force of gravity is exerted on other objects. In astronautical engineering, understanding gravitational fields is crucial for spacecraft trajectory planning and control. The gravitational field of a planet or moon affects the trajectory of a spacecraft, and engineers must take this into account when planning missions. Additionally, gravitational fields can be used to assist spacecraft in their journey, such as using a planet's gravity to slingshot a spacecraft to increase its speed. The study of gravitational fields also includes the effects of gravitational waves, which are ripples in spacetime caused by the acceleration of massive objects. Detecting and measuring gravitational waves is an important area of research in astronautical engineering.
