Gravitational Waves


Gravitational waves are ripples in the fabric of spacetime caused by the acceleration of massive objects. They were predicted by Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity and were first directly detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) in 2015. Gravitational waves carry information about their sources, such as the masses and spins of the objects that created them, and can be used to study astrophysical phenomena such as black hole mergers and neutron star collisions. The detection of gravitational waves has opened up a new window into the universe, allowing us to observe events that were previously invisible to traditional telescopes.
