Scanning Electron Microscopy
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is a type of electron microscopy that produces high-resolution images of a sample by scanning it with a focused beam of electrons. The electrons interact with the atoms in the sample, producing signals that can be detected and used to create an image. SEM is widely used in the field of space and astronautical engineering to analyze the microstructure of materials used in spacecraft and other space-related technologies. It can provide information on the composition, morphology, and topography of a material, as well as its mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. SEM is also used to study the surfaces of planets, moons, and asteroids, providing valuable information on their geological and mineralogical characteristics.
