Environmental Stressors

Environmental stressors refer to physical, chemical, and biological factors in the space environment that can negatively impact the health and performance of astronauts. These stressors include but are not limited to microgravity, radiation, temperature extremes, and isolation. Microgravity can cause changes in bone density, muscle mass, and cardiovascular function, while radiation exposure can increase the risk of cancer and damage to the central nervous system. Temperature extremes can affect equipment and the ability of astronauts to regulate their body temperature, while isolation can lead to psychological stress and decreased cognitive function. Mitigating the effects of environmental stressors is a critical aspect of space and astronautical engineering, as it is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of astronauts during long-duration space missions.
