Distress Beacon

A distress beacon is an emergency radio transmitter that is used to locate airplanes, ships, and individuals in distress. It is designed to transmit a signal on a specific frequency that can be detected by search and rescue teams. Distress beacons are used in space and astronautical engineering to provide a means of locating spacecraft or astronauts in distress. They are typically carried on board spacecraft and can be activated manually or automatically in the event of an emergency. The most common type of distress beacon used in space is the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), which is designed to transmit a signal on a frequency that can be detected by search and rescue satellites. In addition to EPIRBs, there are also Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) that can be carried by astronauts during spacewalks or other activities outside of the spacecraft.
