Contamination Control

Contamination control is the process of preventing or reducing the introduction, generation, or spread of contaminants in the space environment. Contaminants can be in the form of particles, gases, or liquids that can adversely affect the performance, reliability, and safety of spacecraft and their payloads. Contamination control involves the use of various techniques such as cleaning, filtering, purging, and monitoring to maintain the cleanliness of the spacecraft and its components. It also includes the development of materials and coatings that are resistant to contamination and the establishment of procedures and protocols for handling and storing materials and equipment. Contamination control is critical for the success of space missions as it ensures that the spacecraft and its instruments operate as intended and that the scientific data collected is accurate and reliable.
