Weapon System
A weapon system is a collection of interconnected components that work together to perform a specific task of destroying or disabling a target. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, a weapon system can refer to any technology designed to be used in space warfare, including offensive and defensive systems. Offensive systems may include missiles, lasers, or other directed energy weapons, while defensive systems may include shields, countermeasures, or other technologies designed to protect spacecraft from attack. Weapon systems may also include communication and surveillance technologies that enable the detection and tracking of potential targets. The development and deployment of weapon systems in space is subject to international treaties and agreements, including the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which prohibits the placement of weapons of mass destruction in orbit around the Earth.
