Conservation Of Momentum

Conservation of momentum is a fundamental principle of physics that states that the total momentum of a closed system of objects (which has no net external forces acting on it) remains constant. In other words, the momentum of an object before a collision or interaction is equal to the momentum of the same object after the collision or interaction. This principle is particularly important in space and astronautical engineering, where the conservation of momentum is used to predict the motion of spacecraft and other objects in space. For example, when a spacecraft fires its engines to change its velocity, the conservation of momentum dictates that the spacecraft will experience an equal and opposite change in momentum, which can be used to calculate its new trajectory. Similarly, the conservation of momentum is used to design spacecraft that can perform complex maneuvers, such as docking with other spacecraft or landing on other planets.
