Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

In the context of aerospace engineering, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) refers to the use of computer systems to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of an aerospace design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the aerospace engineer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. In aerospace engineering, CAD is used to design aircraft and spacecraft structures, systems, and components, ensuring that these designs meet required specifications and regulatory requirements. CAD allows aerospace engineers to create 3D models of aircraft or spacecraft designs, which can then be analyzed for strength, weight, range, performance, and other factors. These models can also be used in simulations to predict how the aircraft or spacecraft will perform under various conditions. CAD is an essential tool in modern aerospace engineering, enabling more efficient and accurate design and analysis.
