Artificial Joints

Artificial joints are prosthetic devices that are surgically implanted to replace a damaged or diseased joint. In space and astronautical engineering context, artificial joints are designed to withstand the unique challenges of spaceflight, such as microgravity, radiation exposure, and limited medical resources. Astronauts may require artificial joints due to the physical demands of spaceflight, as well as the long-term effects of microgravity on the musculoskeletal system. The design of artificial joints for space must take into account the effects of radiation on the materials used, as well as the need for lightweight and durable components. Additionally, the surgical procedures for implanting artificial joints in space must be carefully planned and executed, as the limited medical resources available on spacecraft and space stations may require a different approach than on Earth.
