Airfoil
An airfoil is a shape that is designed to produce lift when air flows over it. In aerospace engineering, airfoils are used in the design of wings, propellers, and turbines. The shape of an airfoil is carefully designed to create a pressure difference between the upper and lower surfaces of the airfoil, which generates lift. The curvature of the airfoil, known as the camber, and the angle at which it is positioned relative to the airflow, known as the angle of attack, are critical factors in determining the lift and drag characteristics of the airfoil. Airfoils are also designed to minimize drag, which is the resistance to motion caused by the air flowing over the surface of the airfoil. In addition to their use in aircraft, airfoils are also used in wind turbines to generate electricity.
