Lift

In space and astronautical engineering, lift is the force that opposes the weight of an aircraft or spacecraft and allows it to stay aloft and move through the air or space. Lift is generated by the motion of the vehicle through a fluid, such as air or gas, and is dependent on the shape and size of the vehicle, as well as the speed and density of the fluid. In aircraft, lift is typically generated by the wings, which are designed to create a pressure differential between the upper and lower surfaces of the wing. In spacecraft, lift can be generated by a variety of means, including rocket engines, ion thrusters, and solar sails.
