Air Revitalization
Air Revitalization is the process of maintaining breathable air in a spacecraft or space station. It involves removing carbon dioxide, water vapor, and other contaminants from the air and replenishing it with oxygen. The air revitalization system typically includes a carbon dioxide removal system, a trace contaminant control system, and an oxygen generation system. The carbon dioxide removal system removes carbon dioxide from the air using a chemical process or a physical adsorption process. The trace contaminant control system removes other contaminants such as ammonia, formaldehyde, and other volatile organic compounds. The oxygen generation system produces oxygen by electrolysis of water or by a chemical reaction. The air revitalization system is critical for the health and safety of the crew in space, as well as for the success of the mission.
