Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR)
Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) is a sensor carried on board of NOAA polar orbiting satellites that provides global coverage of the Earth's surface. AVHRR measures the radiance of the Earth in five spectral bands, including visible, near-infrared, and thermal infrared. The data collected by AVHRR is used for a variety of applications, including weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and vegetation analysis. The visible and near-infrared bands are used to determine the presence and health of vegetation, while the thermal infrared band is used to measure sea surface temperature and detect fires. AVHRR data is also used to monitor the extent of sea ice, track the movement of storms, and detect changes in land use and land cover.
