Acquisition Of Signal (AOS)
Acquisition of Signal (AOS) is the moment when a spacecraft establishes a communication link with a ground station or another spacecraft. This occurs when the spacecraft's antenna is pointed towards the receiver and the signal is strong enough to be detected. AOS is a critical event in space missions as it allows for the transfer of data, commands, and telemetry between the spacecraft and the ground. The duration of AOS depends on the position of the spacecraft and the location of the ground station. During AOS, the spacecraft's systems are typically configured to transmit and receive data at high rates to maximize the amount of information that can be exchanged. AOS is also important for tracking the spacecraft's position and velocity, which is necessary for navigation and control.
