Volatile Memory
Volatile memory is a type of computer memory that requires power to maintain the stored information. If power is lost, all data stored in volatile memory is erased. This type of memory is commonly used in computers as RAM (Random Access Memory) to temporarily store data that is being actively used by the CPU. Volatile memory is faster than non-volatile memory, but it is also more expensive and has a limited capacity. In space and astronautical engineering, volatile memory is used in spacecraft computers to store critical data such as telemetry and command information. However, due to the harsh radiation environment in space, volatile memory can be susceptible to Single Event Upsets (SEUs) which can cause errors in the stored data.
