Upper Atmosphere

The upper atmosphere is the region of the Earth's atmosphere that extends from the top of the troposphere (around 10-15 km above the Earth's surface) to the edge of space (about 100 km above the Earth's surface). This region is characterized by a decrease in air pressure and temperature with increasing altitude, and is home to a variety of important phenomena, including the ozone layer, the ionosphere, and the aurora borealis. The upper atmosphere is also of great interest to space and astronautical engineers, as it is the region through which spacecraft must pass during launch and re-entry, and where many important space-based technologies operate, such as GPS and communication satellites.
