Thermal Protection System
Thermal Protection System (TPS) is a technology used to protect spacecraft and astronauts from the extreme heat generated during atmospheric re-entry. The TPS is designed to dissipate the heat and prevent the spacecraft from burning up or being damaged. The TPS typically consists of a heat shield made of materials such as ceramic tiles, reinforced carbon-carbon, or ablative materials.
