Tensile Testing

Tensile testing is a method used to determine the mechanical properties of materials under tension. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, tensile testing is used to evaluate the strength and durability of materials that will be exposed to the extreme conditions of space, such as temperature fluctuations, radiation, and vacuum. The test involves applying a controlled tensile force to a sample of the material until it reaches its breaking point. During the test, various parameters such as stress, strain, and elongation are measured to determine the material's behavior under tension. The results of tensile testing are used to design and select materials for spacecraft and other space-related applications.
