Tantalum

Tantalum is a rare, hard, blue-gray, lustrous transition metal that is highly corrosion-resistant. It is a key material in the aerospace industry due to its high melting point, excellent strength-to-weight ratio, and resistance to corrosion and erosion. Tantalum is used in the production of components for jet engines, rocket engines, and missiles, as well as in heat exchangers, nuclear reactors, and electronic components such as capacitors and high-power resistors. Tantalum is also used in medical implants and prosthetics due to its biocompatibility and resistance to corrosion. However, the mining and processing of tantalum can have negative environmental and social impacts, and efforts are being made to improve the sustainability of the tantalum supply chain.
