Spoilers
In the context of aerospace engineering, spoilers are devices used on aircraft to disrupt the airflow over the wings and reduce lift. They are typically located on the upper surface of the wing and can be extended upward into the airflow to 'spoil' the smooth flow of air across the wing, thereby reducing the lift it generates. Spoilers are used in various situations, such as during landing to help slow the aircraft down and to increase the rate of descent without increasing speed. They can also be used in flight to aid in rapid descents or to quickly reduce speed. In addition, spoilers can be used on the ground to help brake the aircraft after landing, by destroying lift and transferring weight to the wheels for better braking friction. Spoilers are an essential component of an aircraft's control system, contributing to its safety and efficiency.
