Space Weathering

Space Weathering refers to the changes that occur on the surface of airless bodies in the Solar System due to exposure to the space environment. This includes the effects of solar wind, micrometeoroid impacts, and cosmic rays. Space weathering can cause physical and chemical changes on the surface of these bodies, such as the darkening of lunar soil and the formation of regolith. These changes can affect the reflectance and spectral properties of the surface, making it difficult to interpret remote sensing data. Understanding space weathering is important for interpreting the geological history of airless bodies, as well as for planning future missions to these bodies.
