Space Debris Mitigation
Space Debris Mitigation refers to the set of measures taken to reduce the creation of new debris and the amount of debris already in orbit around the Earth. This includes designing satellites and rockets to minimize the amount of debris they generate during launch and operation, as well as removing debris from orbit through active or passive means. Active debris removal involves capturing and removing debris using robotic spacecraft, while passive debris removal involves designing satellites to naturally deorbit at the end of their operational life. Space Debris Mitigation is important to ensure the safety and sustainability of space activities, as debris can pose a threat to operational spacecraft and can create a cascade of collisions that generate even more debris.
