Sound Waves


In the context of space and astronautical engineering, sound waves refer to the propagation of mechanical vibrations through a medium, such as air or water, that can be detected by the human ear. In space, there is no medium for sound waves to travel through, as it is a vacuum, and therefore sound cannot be heard. However, sound waves can still be used in space engineering for various purposes, such as measuring the structural integrity of spacecraft or detecting the presence of gas leaks. Additionally, sound waves can be used to simulate the effects of launch and re-entry on spacecraft and their payloads, allowing engineers to test their designs before actual launch.
