Structural Integrity

Structural Integrity is the ability of a structure to withstand loads and stresses over time without suffering from deformation, fracture, or fatigue. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, structural integrity is a critical aspect of spacecraft design and operation. The harsh environment of space, including extreme temperatures, radiation, and micrometeoroids, can cause significant damage to spacecraft structures. Therefore, engineers must ensure that spacecraft are designed with adequate strength, stiffness, and durability to withstand these conditions. Structural integrity is also important for launch vehicles, as they must withstand the high loads and vibrations during launch and ascent. Failure of structural components can lead to catastrophic consequences, such as loss of mission or even loss of life.
