Solid-state Lighting

Solid-state lighting (SSL) is a type of lighting that uses semiconductor light-emitting diodes (LEDs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), or polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) as sources of illumination instead of traditional incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes. SSL technology has several advantages over traditional lighting, including higher energy efficiency, longer lifespan, and lower maintenance costs. In space and astronautical engineering, SSL is used for various applications, such as spacecraft lighting, plant growth experiments, and astronaut health and well-being. SSL technology is also being developed for use in space-based telescopes and other scientific instruments, as it offers improved performance and reliability compared to traditional lighting sources.
