Skylab
Skylab was the first United States space station, launched by NASA, occupied for about 24 weeks between May 1973 and February 1974. It was a large, single-story workshop with multiple docking ports for crewed and uncrewed spacecraft, and a variety of scientific experiments were carried out aboard. The station was equipped with a solar observatory, a materials processing laboratory, and a space telescope, among other instruments. Skylab was also used to study the effects of long-duration spaceflight on the human body, and to develop techniques for living and working in space. Three crews of astronauts visited Skylab during its operational lifetime, and they conducted a range of experiments in astronomy, Earth observation, and life sciences.
