Signal Power

Signal power is the amount of power carried by a signal, usually measured in watts or decibels relative to a reference power level. In space and astronautical engineering, signal power is a critical parameter for communication systems. It determines the range and quality of communication links between spacecraft and ground stations or between spacecraft and other spacecraft. Signal power can be affected by various factors such as distance, atmospheric attenuation, antenna gain, and noise. Engineers need to carefully design and optimize communication systems to ensure sufficient signal power for reliable and efficient communication. This involves selecting appropriate frequencies, modulation schemes, coding techniques, and antenna configurations, as well as accounting for the dynamic changes in signal power during different phases of a mission.
