Short Circuit

In space and astronautical engineering, Short Circuit refers to an electrical malfunction that occurs when a current follows an unintended path due to a low resistance connection between two points in an electrical circuit. Short circuits can cause damage to electrical systems and can be particularly dangerous in space due to the lack of atmosphere to dissipate heat generated by the short circuit. In addition, short circuits can cause fires in the confined environment of a spacecraft or space station. Engineers take precautions to prevent short circuits by designing electrical systems with proper insulation, fuses, and circuit breakers.
