Semiconductor Material

A semiconductor material is a material that has electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, semiconductor materials are used in the fabrication of electronic devices such as transistors, diodes, and solar cells. These devices are essential components of spacecraft and satellites, as they enable communication, navigation, and power generation. Silicon is the most commonly used semiconductor material due to its abundance and well-established manufacturing processes. However, other materials such as gallium arsenide and indium phosphide are also used in specialized applications where their unique properties offer advantages over silicon.
