Seismology
Seismology is the study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies. It involves the analysis of the sources of earthquakes, the paths of seismic waves through the Earth, and the Earth's response to these waves. Seismologists use a variety of techniques to study earthquakes, including seismometers, which measure ground motion, and GPS, which measures ground deformation. They also use computer models to simulate the behavior of seismic waves and to predict the effects of earthquakes on buildings and other structures. Seismology is important for understanding the structure and dynamics of the Earth's interior, as well as for assessing earthquake hazards and developing strategies for earthquake preparedness and response.
