Scattering
Scattering is the process by which particles or waves are deflected or redirected in different directions when they encounter an obstacle or a medium that varies in density. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, scattering is an important phenomenon that affects the propagation of electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, microwaves, and light, in the Earth's atmosphere and in space. Scattering can cause signal attenuation, distortion, and interference, which can affect the performance of communication systems, remote sensing instruments, and navigation systems. Scattering can also be used as a tool for studying the properties of the medium that causes the scattering, such as the composition, structure, and dynamics of the atmosphere, the ionosphere, and the interplanetary and interstellar medium.
