Sampling

Sampling is the process of selecting a subset of individuals or objects from a larger population to estimate characteristics of the whole population. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, sampling is often used to collect data from celestial bodies such as planets, asteroids, and comets. This data can be used to study the physical and chemical properties of these bodies, as well as to gain insights into the formation and evolution of the solar system. Sampling techniques used in space exploration include drilling, scooping, and scraping, as well as more advanced methods such as laser ablation and coring. The design of sampling systems must take into account the unique challenges of space exploration, such as the harsh environment, limited resources, and communication delays.
