Gain

In space and astronautical engineering, gain refers to the increase in signal power or amplitude from an input to an output of a system. It is a measure of the amplification of a signal by an electronic system. Gain is an important parameter in communication systems, where it determines the strength of the received signal. In satellite communication, for example, the gain of the antenna determines the strength of the signal received from the satellite. Gain is also an important parameter in control systems, where it determines the responsiveness of the system to changes in the input signal. In spacecraft attitude control, for example, the gain of the control system determines how quickly the spacecraft can be stabilized in a desired orientation.
